Holey Moses

There was a huge wind storm on June 27th which brought down, among others I’m sure, a huge sugar maple tree in our back yard.

The tree was in the range of 150 years old. All the things it’s seen! Being hollow in the middle with burls and branches everywhere, it was home to many of the local fauna. We’d seen owls in their nest more than once. The squirrels often sought shelter there when being chased by our slow but ever eager chocolate lab.

There is lots of hard wood for burning, maybe a burl or two for turning, ample fodder for huglekulture and branches for chipping. Mother Nature has been very generous to us and we are ever grateful. The intent. Is to keep the stump and hang bird houses from it to replace some of those lost. We just have to figure out how to build an owl house.
